Using Validations in Dynamic Routing

Question:  I want to use dynamic routing for email, fax and print but I have very little space available on the document.  I can’t designate one area for an email address, another area for fax number and a third area for print.  How can I designate one area that will contain either an email address, fax number, or print value?

Response: When properties are associated with a document type you can configure validations to determine whether or not a property is valid.  By using the ‘In the Format of’ operator doc-link can be configured to determine if the information is an email address, a fax number or simply an indication to print the document.  In this example you can include either the email address, fax number or print designation in one designated location.  The property validation will determine which property it is associated with.

  1. Navigate to the appropriate Document Type window (Document Types tile > double-click document).
  2. Click the Properties tab, then click the Edit button to display the Document Type Properties window..
  3. Select one of the properties you need to configure with a validation (the email or fax properties). Click the Validations button to display the Document Type Property Validations window.
  4. Click the Add button to enable the Edit Validation pane on the right side of the window.
  5. For the Email property create a validation similar to the following:

For the Fax property create a validation similar to the following:

For the Print property create a validation similar to the following:

  6. Save and exit out of the Document Type Configuration windows. Next, click on the ERM Document Types tile.
  7. Click the Properties option on the left side of the window. Select either the Email, Fax, or Print properties and click the Properties button to display the ERM Document Type Property window. Specify the area where the property will be located.
  8. Repeat Step 7 until all properties are mapped.
