ERM Virtual Printer - No Physical Print
These instructions allow you to create a virtual printer on your DocLink server that prints to a NUL port (no physical print). You will share this printer, and add it to all workstation/user combinations that will be printing to DocLink.
- On the DocLink server, go to the Windows Start menu > Control Panel > Printers (or Start > Devices and Printers).
- Click Add a Printer to open the Add Printer Wizard.
- Select Add a local printer. Click Next.
- Select Create new port, then Local Port as the Type of port. Click Next.
- the Port Name dialog window enter 'NUL' (in all caps). Click OK.
- Select a manufacturer and printer model that supports advance printing features.
For the HP LaserJet 5 driver, click the Windows Update button.
- If prompted to use existing driver or replace, choose the Use option and click Next.
- Name your printer (e.g.: 'ERM Only Printer', 'ERM Capture Printer', or similar). Select Set as the default printer if this printer will be the default, and click Next.

The ampersand (&) is not a supported character when naming a printer.

- Select the Share option and enter a share name. Optionally, enter Location and Comment, then click Next.
- Do not click the Print a test page button at this time. Click Finish to exit the Add Printer Wizard.
- Right-click on the newly created ERM printer and select Properties.
- If using EMF, select the Sharing tab and uncheck the Render print jobs on client computers option. Skip this step if using XPS.
- Select the Advanced tab. Place a check next to the following options:
- Print spooled documents first
- Keep printed documents - This will keep the print job in the spool directory allowing time for the ERM service to pick up and process the file.
- Enable advanced printing features
- For EMF processing only.
- Automatically selected and grayed out for XPS.
- Uncheck this option if processing PCL.
- Click the Apply button before continuing.
- Click the Print Processor... button. The Print Processor window opens.
- For XPS - Select WinPrint as the print processor and RAW as the default data type. Click OK to continue.
- For EMF - Select WinPrint as the print processor and NT EMF 1.008 as the default data type. Click OK to continue.
- For PCL - Select WinPrint as the print processor and RAW as the default data type. Click OK to continue.
- Click the Security tab, if Everyone is not listed under Groups or user names, add it.
- Set permissions for Everyone to allow:
- Print
- Manage Printers
- Manage Documents
- Return to the General tab and click the Print Test Page button. Click OK.
- Click OK again to exit the printer Properties dialog window.

You must restart the DocLink ERM Capture Service in order for DocLink to recognize the newly created ERM printer.
