Document Templates
A template lies over the top of an ERM captured document or a document being sent via Output Manager. Templates provide the following functions:
- A template configured for an ERM captured document gives it the appearance of having been printed on a pre-printed form.
- A template used for delivery via Output Manager can be configured to modify the look of a document to show or hide information useful to the recipient.
A template can contain up to three layers:
- Overlay – This layer consists of the standard lines, shading and words that appear on each use of the overlay. Standard overlays include an invoice, check, and purchase order.
- Graphic – This layer consists of a graphic such as a company logo. The logo can be placed on the overlay to create a personalized template.
- Annotation – This layer consists of text, line and redaction annotations. These art files can be placed on the overlay to modify the template for a specific use.
Color templates are supported in DocLink Follow the basic template instructions listed below, but keep in mind these color considerations:
Color TIFF images must meet the following requirements to be compatible in DocLink:
- Utilize a supported color depth. Color depth is a computer graphics term describing the number of bits used to represent the color of a single pixel in a bitmapped image. This concept is also known as bits per pixel (BPP). Higher color depth gives
a broader range of colors.
- 1 BPP - Black & White
- 8 BPP - Also referred to as 8 bit color, renders images in 256 distinct colors.
- Utilize LZW compression. LZW (Lempel-Ziv-Welch) is a compression algorithm used by a number of formats, including GIF, TIFF, PostScript, PDF, Unix Compress, and V.42bis. It compresses repetitive data and does so with minimal computational overhead.
 |
The higher the BPP the larger the file. Increasing color depth results in higher color quality at the expense of display speed, responsiveness and system performance.

Color can be added to templates by adding the following:
- Using a Main Overlay that has been created or scanned as a color TIFF that meets the requirements listed above.
- Inserting a color logo or graphic.
- Adding Text, Line and Redaction annotations in color.
Prior to saving your template select the appropriate color depth option from the Properties > Color Depth menu in the Template Viewer.
